Lindy Smith

My name is Lindy Smith and I’m excited to share with you my journey to finding a love for yoga and teaching of this ancient healing practice.
Growing up I played alot of competitive sport, after spending my childhood doing gymnastics, little athletics and surflifesaving. I had the privelidge in being chosen to represent Australia in my chosen sport, Touch Football and Qld for Soccer. Always curious in Physical Health and Wellbeing, I became a Personal Trainer after leaving school which enabled an opportunity to connect with the community on a level I was passionate about.
After moving to Far North Queensland and the birth of my beautiful daughter Georgia, I was drawn to photography and the Creative Arts, where I commenced studies in Graphic Design. This ignited a passion for creative expression through video capture and edit.
With so much time spent behind the computer, I lost connection with physical movement and seemed to have stores of energy that caused me huge problems. Without physical activity which had been a huge part of my life,
I wasn’t grounded and my mind seemed to take over which lead me down a path of healing. With no awareness I sourced the assistance of ‘Industry Professionals’ that diagnosed me with having ADHD. The medication they gave me wasn’t good for me so I continued to research other alternatives to taking these medications. I continued to have yoga cross my path so I guess you can say my Yoga journey commenced when I attended an Ashtanga Yoga Retreat in Byron Bay… I found yoga brought mindful awareness to my body, mind and spirit, giving me the opportunity to take time to check in with how I was truly feeling.. I had always played competitive sport so I was looking for a challenge that would be kinder on my body, enhance self-expression and eliminate the ego to always having to win.. I also needed to find balance in my work life, with spending long hours editing and designing on the computer. The skills I learned practicing yoga enabled me connect with breath and allow the structures of a thinking mind to break down. I loved the way a consistent yoga practice made me feel, so I commenced a spiritual journey to cultivate self-love. This journey lead me to Yoga Teacher Training with Carrie-Anne Fields at ‘My Health Yoga’ where I could immerse myself and become a student in learning the techniques of teaching this Ancient Healing Practise and
pass on the knowledge to others in my local community..
When I roll out my mat to teach, I enjoy stimulating the senses using music & essentail oils and challenging the
body with postures whilst cultivating an awareness in the mind through pranayama (breath work).. I aim to help others open and release stagnation in the physical body & mind and re-awaken those parts of ourselves that may have become dormant whilst practising non-judgement. Yoga is transformational on so many levels and coupled with self love (our greatest lesson) we can experience growth and participate in that which brings us joy and bring us closer to our true nature, enabling us to explore our potential and flow with the rhythm of life.
Yoga has brought so much joy, peace, grace and love to my life and am excited to share the universal knowledge I have learnt aswel as learn from those around me..
Enjoy the flow!!!
Namaste’.
